THIRD DAY OF ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP J24 OPEN

“La Superba” is still the first after seven regattas. Vigne Surrau is second. (Provisional standings at 5 pm)

La Superba continues to dominate in the Italian Open J24 in Cannigione organized by the Club Nautico Arzachena. In second place Vigne Surrau. At the regatta in the Gulf of Arzachena there are 41 boats, including many foreigners who are preparing themselves for the European Championship which starts on this coming 30 of May. The Italian sailing boat, La Superba, the boat of the Italian Navy, crossed the finish line first in both today's regattas with the helmsman Ignazio Bonanno, former Italian champion in charge.

The crew of La Superba concludes the third day of racing at the top. "We are quite pleased with the results obtained so far, given that in race there are three of the world's strongest foreign boats. We had a little difficulty at the start, the wind is very fluctuating in these recent days, the jumps creates a strong handicap, but tomorrow, hopefully we will have better conditions. Foreigners are leading the overall standings, but we will not press on them, as for now we will try to defend the national title" explains Francesco Linares, a member of the team. The crew of the Navy Sailing Center consists of Linares, committed to the mast, Ignazio Bonanno as helmsman, Simone Scontrino as tailer, Massimo Gherarducci as tactician and centerman and Alfredo Branciforte as bowman.

Among the best Sardinian standard bearer on water the crew of the Club Nautico Arzachena, Vigne Surrau. During the first regatta, the wind came from the west with an intensity of 14-15 knots. For the second regatta it was relocated facing because of a rotation of the northeast wind, which then, towards the end of the second regatta had begun to decline.

There are 24 Italian boats in the race for the title of Italian Champion of J24. With their boats on the start line 10 German, 1 British, 1 Brazilian, 1 American, 1 Swedish, 1 Greek, 1 Hungarian and 1 from the Principality of Monaco.

Foreigners dominate in the overall standings in both tests.
The first race started at 12.20 with a west wind around 14-15 knots. Always in the lead right from the first beat USA 5399 Furio, skippered by Keith Whittemore, which cuts the line first followed by Kai Mares at the helm of GER 5420 Rotoman and BRA 37, the boat Bruschetta World Champion class in charge.

The event is supported by the Regione Autonoma della Sardegna, Provincia Olbia Tempio, the Comune di Arzachena and numerous sponsors and local businesses.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 29, last day of racing for the Italian championship. In the evening the awards ceremony at the Sailing Village on the waterfront of Cannigione. On May 30, crews will be back to work to prepare the boats for the European Championship.
